As a Toronto and Niagara wedding photographer with over 12 years of experience and more than 325 weddings captured, I keep a short list of venues I get excited to see on my calendar. A Bella Terra Vineyards wedding is on it.
Bella Terra means beautiful land, and the name does most of the talking. A quiet pond. Rows of estate vines in every direction. A tented terrace looking out over all of it.
As someone who photographs here, the part I love most is the end of the day. The sun gets low, the vines go gold, and you’re standing in the middle of it with a glass of wine and all your people a few steps away.
Why Couples Choose Bella Terra
Couples choose Bella Terra because it feels like wine country the way you pictured it. A 50 acre family farm the Puglisi family has tended since 1974. Vines right up to the edge of your ceremony. A pond that catches the sky at the end of the day.
The other reason is how the day flows. There is one ceremony site and one reception space, and they sit steps apart. You say your vows by the pond, walk over to cocktail hour, and sit down to dinner with the vines all around you. Your guests stay together the whole time, drink in hand.
And you are well taken care of here. Weddings at Bella Terra are planned and served by Vintage Hotels, with catering from Queen’s Landing. As a preferred vendor with Vintage Hotels, I work alongside this team often, and they are very good at making a big day feel calm.
The Spaces
The Vineyard Ceremony Site
Tucked between the pond and the vines, with room for up to 175 guests. Your backdrop is rows of grapes and open sky, so it needs very little added to it. An arbour, some florals, and it’s done.
Stand where you’ll say your vows and the vineyards go on for what feels like forever. It’s my favourite view on the property.

Cocktail Hour on the Lawn
Cocktail hour happens on the grass just outside the tent. Your guests walk out of the ceremony and straight into a drink, with the pond and the vines all around them.
On a summer evening, with the sun still up and a glass of wine in hand, this is the part of the day people linger in.

The Pondview Terrace
A 3,600-square-foot tented terrace with vineyard views on every side and room for up to 175 guests. It has a permanent floor and sidewalls that open and close, so it’s breezy on a warm July evening and cozy when the air cools off.
It’s also a blank canvas. Your florals, your candlelight and your tables are what guests notice when they walk in.

A Photographer’s Perspective
Sunset is the moment
The light at Bella Terra is at its best right at the end of the day. The vines glow and everything softens. I build the whole timeline around it.
Summer is my favourite time here. The vines are full and green, and the evenings stay warm long after the sun goes down.
Plan your ceremony for 4pm or later
Summer sun is high and bright through the early afternoon. A ceremony at 4pm or later gives you softer light on your faces and on the vines behind you.
Do your first look before you arrive
A first look at Pillar and Post, Queen’s Landing or a park like the Commons gets your portraits and wedding party photos done early. By the time you reach the vineyard, all that’s left is to get married and be with your guests.
The best portraits are right beside the ceremony
My favourite spot is in the vineyard rows next to where you say your vows. It’s steps away, so we slip out for ten minutes at golden hour and you’re back with your guests before your glass is empty.
Add ceiling draping to the terrace
If there’s one upgrade I’d recommend, it’s this. Draping softens the tent, warms up the light, and makes the whole space feel finished. It looks beautiful in person and even better in your photos.

Planning Your Day
Getting ready
Get ready at one of the Vintage Hotels in Niagara-on-the-Lake, like Pillar and Post or Queen’s Landing. Both are a short drive from the vineyard, and your guests can stay there too.
Make it a weekend
Niagara-on-the-Lake makes it easy to stretch one day into three. Welcome drinks in Old Town on Friday night. A slow morning at the spa before you get ready. Wine tastings, a show at the Shaw Festival or a drive along the Niagara Parkway for your guests.
By the time everyone arrives at the vineyard, they already feel like they’re on holiday together.
If it rains
The Pondview Terrace has sidewalls that close and a permanent floor, so dinner and dancing carry on exactly as planned. Your ceremony can move under the terrace too, still surrounded by vines.
Parking and location
There is parking on site, so guests drive in and walk straight to the ceremony. You’ll find Bella Terra at 925 Line 2 Road in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
