1 Hotel Toronto: A Toronto Wedding Venue Deep Dive

As a Toronto and Niagara wedding photographer with over 12 years of experience and more than 325 weddings captured, I have walked through a lot of venues. Most of them are beautiful. A handful of them stop you in your tracks.

1 Hotel Toronto stopped me in my tracks.

Not because it is grand in the way a traditional hotel ballroom is grand. Because it feels like nothing else in this city. The moment you walk in, the noise of Wellington Street disappears. The materials slow you down. The light wraps around you. And all of a sudden, downtown Toronto feels like a destination.

That is the thing about 1 Hotel. It gives couples something almost impossible to find: a wedding that feels like a getaway without ever leaving the city.

Why Couples Choose 1 Hotel Toronto

There is a couple I keep picturing when I think about 1 Hotel. They are not looking for a traditional ballroom. They want something that feels intentional. Elevated. Like a place their guests would choose to be even if there was no wedding happening.

They want warm, earthy textures and floor-to-ceiling windows. They want their cocktail hour to feel like they have stepped into a beautifully designed restaurant. They want the rooftop ceremony with the full Toronto skyline behind them. And then they want to move their guests through the evening across completely different environments, each one with its own personality, its own energy.

They want a wedding that feels like a weekend away. And 1 Hotel delivers that.

The Spaces

What sets 1 Hotel apart is not just one great room. It is the range. You can build an entirely different experience across multiple spaces all under one roof, and every single one of them photographs beautifully.

The Maple Ballroom

The Maple is the main reception space and it earns that role. At 2,976 square feet with capacity for up to 160 guests for a plated dinner with a dance floor, it is the kind of room that does not need a lot added to it. The biophilic design does the heavy lifting. Natural textures, warm tones, reclaimed materials sourced throughout Ontario. It can also be divided into two separate spaces, which gives you the flexibility to use it for ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all in one footprint.

Flora Lounge

If you want a cocktail hour that your guests talk about for years, this is the room. Floor-to-ceiling windows, an open concept layout, flooded with natural light. Flora holds up to 200 guests and it has that rare quality of feeling both lively and calm at the same time. As a photographer, this room is a gift.

Harriet’s Rooftop

One of the most expansive views of the Toronto skyline you will find anywhere in the city. Harriet’s is where couples come when they want their ceremony to feel cinematic. The retractable roof and side panels mean you are not gambling on the weather. You get the open-air experience with a backup built right in. This is an outdoor ceremony that actually works in Toronto.

Casa Madera

The full restaurant space. Up to 250 guests, immersive and vibrant, with a warmth that feels more like a beautifully designed dining room than an event space. For couples who want the wedding to feel like one long, incredible dinner with everyone they love, this room is exactly that.

Chestnut Ballroom

For smaller, more intimate gatherings of up to 75 guests, the Chestnut is an elegantly designed alternative that maintains everything 1 Hotel does so well. Warm, considered, and completely cohesive with the rest of the property.

The Garden Pavilion

A beautiful outdoor space for rehearsal dinners or morning-after brunches. Stunning reclaimed wood harvest tables, a garden setting, and that unmistakable 1 Hotel attention to detail. If you are hosting a wedding weekend, this is the space that bookends it perfectly.

A Photographer’s Perspective

The Light

Every space at 1 Hotel is filled with natural light, and when the sun sets, the warm, considered artificial lighting takes over without missing a beat. Floor-to-ceiling windows, earth tones, natural materials. Everything in this building works with light rather than against it. Portraits feel organic here. Candids feel alive. You are not fighting the environment at any point in the day.

The Aesthetic Variety

What I love most about photographing here is how many completely different looks you can achieve without ever leaving the property. The light and airy openness of Flora. The dramatic skyline of the rooftop. The warm, intimate feel of Casa Madera at night. Every space gives you something distinct. As a photographer, that variety is everything.

The Vignettes

Around every corner at 1 Hotel, there is another texture, another detail, another backdrop that works beautifully. Living plant installations, reclaimed wood, and natural stone. The building itself is the backdrop. You do not need to go far or pull couples away from their guests to find great portrait opportunities.

The Sustainability Story

1 Hotel Toronto is the city’s first LEED Gold Certified luxury hotel, and it wears that identity without making it feel like a compromise. The reclaimed materials, the locally sourced culinary program, the on-site composting, the 3,300 plants throughout the property. Every detail in this building has been thought through, and that intentionality is something you can feel from the moment you walk in. For couples who care about the values behind the vendor they choose, this place means something.

The Team

Danielle on the venue sales team is someone I want every couple to meet. Warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in making the experience feel special from the very first conversation.

Best For

Couples who want their wedding to feel like a getaway without leaving the city. Couples who value a design-forward aesthetic where the venue does the heavy lifting. Couples who want the flexibility to move their guests through multiple beautiful spaces over the course of one night. And couples who care about where their dollars go and what values the businesses they work with actually hold.
