5 Things You Can Do with Your Engagement Photos

How an engagement photo session will make your wedding planning process easy, fun and stress-free

The Moment Your Life Changes:

“Will you marry me?”
Whether you are on the delivery or receiving-end of this life-changing question, being engaged comes along with a range of different emotions: joy, tears, shock, love, relief… and when the excitement of the moment has finally sunken in, perhaps a little stress starts to seep in as the next big questions looms in your mind- what now?

Your Post-Engagement Pep Talk:

Engagement. It’s a beautiful stage in your life, and we’re probably not the first ones who’ve told you, “Just enjoy this stage! Don’t get caught up in the stress of wedding planning and miss out on the start of this adventure.”
True, but easier said than done, right?
We know how overwhelming wedding planning can feel. There are so many decisions to make and a million details to coordinate. Not only have we been there ourselves when we planned our outdoor DIY wedding, but we’ve also journeyed with over 70 couples as they’ve made the trek from engagement to marriage.

So we also want you to hear us when we say this: Set aside time to pause, remember why you fell in love, why you’re getting married and why at the end of the day, every wedding planning decision you have to make is going to come down to one determining question: does this choice reflect our true story and vibe as a couple?
Celebrating Your Engagement With a Photo Session:
You deserve to be celebrated! We love to celebrate couples by shooting their engagement photos. It’s a fun opportunity to spend time together after all the family engagement parties and see how natural you are in front of a camera before your wedding (don’t worry, we’ve got tips on that if you’re nervous about that!).

Most importantly, you’ll end up with photos that will serve as a constant reminder of why you’re getting married – on the good days and the stressful ones when it feels like your wedding day is an eternity away.
As we are finishing up our  4th season of engagement photos, we wanted to share 5 ways that your engagement photos can make a big difference in your wedding planning journey.
5 Ways To Use Your Engagement Photos:
1. Use them to make the big announcement: After you’ve posted your beautiful engagement photos on social media, use your engagement photos in your Save-the-Dates. These pre-invitations are the formal announcement of your upcoming marriage and they are so helpful in getting people excited about your big day (this is how you can create anticipation that leads to helpful RSVP-ing, and then good energy and happy tears on your wedding day). Use your engagement photos in your save-the-dates so that they set the tone for your wedding and really get people excited for what’s to come.
2. Send along with wedding invitations: You have a couple options here. You can use them as the background on your wedding invitations if you know your guests would like to see photos of you. Or, if you’ve had your heart set on an invitation with a certain kind of linen paper, ribbon, calligraphy style and colour palette, then we would highly recommend sending along several of your favourite engagement photos in your guests’ wedding invitations to add a feel of personalization, and give them pictures to put on their fridge.

PS. Never underestimate the valuable real estate of fridge space – sending things that can be hung on a fridge will keep you and your wedding day will stay top of mind whether your wedding is 3 months away or 3 years away.

3. An engagement album: This is the perfect way to record the story of your love. Spend some time together looking through the engagement photos we provide and choosing your favourites. We guarantee this will lead to hours of memories, laughter and a renewed sense of why you two are so perfect for each other. Setting this engagement album on your coffee table will not only be an excellent conversation piece when friends and family come to visit, but will also be a comfort to you when you need a little break from wedding planning.

4. Print and frame your engagement photos:  You will often hear us emphasize how important it is to make prints of your photos. Technology is awesome – until your computer crashes. Save yourself the nightmare and remember to print your photos. But also! Here’s another great part about printing your engagement photos – they’re an important design decision you can make together! Choosing the style, and colour of frames, and coming up with the different arrangements on your walls is a great exercise in creativity (and teamwork!) Whether they’re going in your current home or your soon-to-be home, these photos can be a focal point of your space.

5. Use them at your wedding: Your engagement photos are the perfect professional photos to use in your guest book, in your pre-ceremony slideshow, and in any photo decor at your reception. If you’re thinking ahead about this, you may want to find a way to connect the themes of your engagement and wedding so there’s a consistent feeling and look.
Summary:
Engagement photos shouldn’t feel like another thing on your “have-to-do” list. They are a great opportunity to enjoy a couple hours with each other, get to know your wedding photographers and also, have photography pieces that will make other tasks on your list easier!
